WildCard BellyDance 5th annual Hafla
by Seba on Jul.12, 2012, under Festivals, Performances, Stories
My mind is a little blown….WildCard BellyDance’s 5th annual Hafla, it’s amazing. Our first halfa as the newly rebirthed WildCard BellyDance happened in December of 2008. We weren’t sure where exactly we were headed but we knew we wanted to keep on dancing. Fast forward to 2012 and I realize exactly how much we have accomplished.

by Seba on Jun.21, 2012, under Festivals, Performances, Teaching Events
That’s right baby! WildCard BellyDance is going back to the desert again this year for The Las Vegas Bellydance Intensive & Festival! We will be teaching a scimitar workshop there, and performing as well. Looking forward to a little bit of dance and deviance in the City of Sin!
See the LVBDI registration page for more info on our “Dancing on the Edge” scimitar workshop that’s happening Sunday Sept. 9th at 8:30am ( that’s right just stay up all night and greet the dawn with something sharp).
We are performing at the festival at 2:30 later on that day. Come and see all the cool stuff you learned at the workshop in action!
Here is a taste of last year’s festival performance.
On the Road to Cairo Caravan
by Seba on May.25, 2012, under Festivals, Performances
It’s time for another WildCard BellyDance road trip. This time down to Southern California to Cairo Caravan. We have a special place in our collective hearts for boats. Every year we have the annual party barge trip, on Lake Sonoma, but this time we are going to the Queen Mary! They tell me it’s dry docked so at least I won’t fall into the water. LOL All the fun happens June 1-3rd at MECDA’s 35th annual Cairo Caravan.
WildCard BellyDance hits the Luxor Stage at 3:15pm on Saturday June 2nd.
See http://www.mecda.org/cairo for more information.

Carnival of Stars
by Seba on Apr.22, 2012, under Festivals, Performances, Stories
I hold a sweet spot in my heart for Pepper, one of the producers of Carnival of Stars. Why, you ask? Well, she is the one who came up with the name for our troupe, WildCard BellyDance. It’s hard to come up with a troupe name. You all know what I am talking about. First you have to come up with a fabulous name that holds some meaning for you, (that hasn’t already been taken), then you need everyone in the troupe to fall in love with it as well, then you have to consider what image will represent and help brand you. It’s a lot. We had a troupe, a format, costumes, music, performances lined up, but alas no name. We had a troupe slumber party and the goal was to stay awake till we had the perfect name. By morning we had a couple of semi okay names, but nothing that we all had fallen in love with. Sigh.
A couple of days passed and I got a phone call from Pepper. She is an amazing dancer, teacher and artist. I love her sense of humor, when I read her comic books they have me laughing out loud. Pepper, unbeknownst to me, also has a gift for naming things. Our troupe was going to be dancing at her festival Carnival of Stars and she wanted to know why I hadn’t sent in the paperwork. I shared with her our trouble of finding the perfect name. She offered the name Wild Cats, but I told her I was done with being named after an animal, she laughed and said WildCard BellyDance and it was perfect. So long story short, WildCard BellyDance will be pleased to perform at Carnival of Stars held at the Richmond Auditorium, in Richmond, CA. The festival is August 4th and 5th and WildCard performs at 4:30 on Sunday.
It’s the only belly dance and comic book festival that I know of, did I mention they also have a costume contest as well.
YIP Podcast

I know I am biased, but I love Tammy and Mary. They are the reason I discovered podcasts. I am not very tech savvy, but I’m married to a technical God so I don’t have to be.
Hanging out before class one day, one of my students, Nicole, mentioned how she was listening to YIP podcast and they mentioned WildCard BellyDance. She said the podcast was fun, informative and a great way to stay connected to belly dance when not in class. After class I went straight home and asked Dan aka the technical God to hook me up. He did better than that, he showed me how to hook myself up. I love YIP podcast! I feel like I know Tammy and Mary and I have never even met them. I have downloaded and listened to all of the previous podcasts and am always waiting for the next one to be released. In the latest episode they play song clips from our CD, Tribal Collaborations. Thanks Ladies. Take a listen. I hope you enjoy it as much as me. http://www.yippodcast.com/
BASK
by Seba on Apr.22, 2012, under Festivals, Performances
BASK, I think the name says it all. It’s a brand new music festival that is happening on the Russian River conveniently located just down the road from my house. Summer time on the river is amazing. Time just seems to slow down on those hot summer days. I can not tell you how many times I have seen people float down the river with their floating ice chest filled with beer. The festival happens July 20th-22nd. WildCard BellyDance performs Saturday night. see http://baskmusic.com/ to buy tickets. Don’t forget your sunscreen!
